Where were you born?
North Carolina is where I was born and raised. In 2001 my husband, children and I moved and now call Florence, South Carolina, home.
What is your educational background?
Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, where I received my undergraduate degree in Learning Disabilities and Early Childhood with a minor in Behavioral Handicap and Elementary Education. Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, where I received my masters in Learning Disabilities. Specialization areas of study include receiving an Educational Therapist license from the National Institute for Learning Development and a certification in Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment.
What is your philosophy of Christian education?
My philosophy of Christian education is to address the whole child; spiritually, academically, socially, and physically with Biblical and Christ-centered instruction to develop a solid Christian foundation for the student to rest in throughout life. As a Christian school, we should serve Christian families who desire a Christian education for their children. Christian education allows teachers to direct the process of development toward God's objective for man to have a Christ-like character. Serving God as an educational therapist, instills in me a desire to meet each child where they are, building competence and confidence in each student to be able to serve God, reaching beyond the skylights to develop the gifts, skills, and talents of every individual so they can use these in their calling to the glory of God. What is your favorite thing about TKA?
The fellowship and care shown and shared by the staff, faculty, and students towards each other make TKA feel like a family. TKA is uniquely different in what it has to offer through mission opportunities and support for students who learn differently.
What is something fun or interesting about you?
My heart overflows when I am with my family and special friends throughout the year or on trips to the beach or mountains. I enjoy experiencing new places and opportunities through travel such as; camping across America, riding in a hot air balloon in NC, crewing a sailboat to the Bahamas, riding a helicopter through a waterfall in Maui, sand surfing in Australia, and swimming in a grotto in Dominica. Sitting and having quiet time at home reflecting on God and all the blessings HE bestows on me and others overwhelms me daily.
