In addition to concerts, other performances for students include playing for chapel, playing for pep rallies and games, and preparing a solo for the SCISA Music Festival in March.

Lower School Chorus gives students in 3rd-5th grades an opportunity to learn ensemble music as well as basic vocal techniques and performance skills.
TKA hosted its first Pee Dee Regional Fine Arts Music Festival in March 2007. Professional adjudicators heard vocal, piano, band instrument, string soloists from grades 4th through 12th, as well as Middle School Chorus. Their comments encouraged and further strengthened the instruction provided by TKA staff. This was a wonderful experience in preparation and presentation of traditional repertoire in addition to contemporary genres.
Staff Credentials
Mrs. Charli Moore is a graduate of Furman University; certified by ACSI, and started at TKA in January 1992. Formerly with The Fine Arts Academy of Florence, Mrs. Moore has enjoyed a career of concertizing and teaching in Missouri and the Carolinas.
After joining us in January of 2010, we are blessed to have as choral director Susan Hiltibidal. Mrs. Hiltibidal trained at the Free Will Baptist College in Nashville and is stepping into the director/teacher position of the Middle Chorus and Upper School Ladies Ensemble. She is an outstanding director and also an accomplished vocalist and voice teacher.
Susan Hiltibidal is a gifted musician and teacher with 28 years of teaching experience among a very diverse range of programs and cultures. In addition to a bachelor’s degree in psychology/counseling, specializing in adolescent behavior, Susan has thirty-six credit hours in music education. Her study of vocal performance includes many credit hours of vocal instruction and vocal pedagogy. She is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and uses her counseling experience to assist her as a dedicated teacher. Former students quite often return to thank her as much or more for the love and spiritual guidance they received as for their musical development.
Susan is very knowledgeable in the science of vocal pedagogy and has worked to build choral programs in some of the strongest Christian schools. Those schools include Raleigh Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C., North side Christian Academy in Charlotte, N.C. and Dade Christian School in Miami, Florida. At the inception of her tenure at Dade Christian the high school choir had fewer than 15 students, and by the time of her departure, the entire choral department had in its membership close to 200 choristers.
Aside from directing choirs and ensembles, Susan has provided private vocal instruction for many students. She either instituted or enhanced the private vocal program in each school in which she was employed. This not only provided tremendous advancement for the individual singers but also resulted in moving group performance ratings from good to superior.
In addition to the usual Christmas and spring concerts, the following is a representative list of the many performances and competitions in which her choirs and private students have been involved:
- Epcot Candlelight Processional
- Florida Vocal Association Solo and Ensemble Competition
- Florida Vocal Association Performance Assessments
- Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools Competition
- Orange Bowl Merrick Caroling Competition
- Music in the Park
- North Carolina Christian School Association Fine Arts Competition
- American Association of Christian Schools National Fine Arts Competition
- Florida All State Choir
- University Honor Choir
- Southeastern Association of Christian Colleges and Schools
Mrs. Hiltibidal’s choirs, ensembles and soloists placed consistently in the top three at the various local and state competitions, with several state championship titles. Mrs. Hiltibidal’s private voice students have performed the national anthem at many professional sporting events including the Major League Baseball’s Florida Marlins and Atlanta Braves, the National Basketball Association’s Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets and NASCAR’s Charlotte Motor Speedway Coca-Cola 500 Time Trials. Two of her students have recorded in Nashville, Tennessee under Christian labels, and another placed third in The Gospel Music Association’s National Songwriting Competition.
Mrs. Hiltibidal has directed many choreographed musical productions including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera and many children’s musicals which have been a memorable addition to her student’s choral experience.
She believes her greatest musical accomplishment is the many former students all over the nation who are building the Kingdom of God through their full time music ministries.
